Chase Is Gutting Hyatt Transfers On Non-Reserve Cards: Today Is Last Day To Grandfather Hyatt Transfers On Sapphire Preferred Or For A Limited Time Signup Bonus With Sapphire Reserve

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is being refreshed tomorrow. For the most part, the changes are quite positive. However, if you apply after today, you will only be able to transfer points to Hyatt at a 1,000:750 ratio. Hyatt is one of Chase’s most valuable transfers partners. It’s not hard to get a value of 2 cents per point from Hyatt transfers, so this devaluation stings.

If you apply today or already have a Sapphire Preferred card, you will retain 1:1 transfers through 9/30. No action is required for this.

That means you may want to apply today, but it’s possible that the card’s signup bonus will increase tomorrow. If that happens, you may be able to contact Chase to match that higher bonus, though that doesn’t always work.

It’s worth noting that you can have both a Sapphire Preferred and a Sapphire Reserve card.

Until 8am ET tomorrow, The Chase Sapphire Reserve® Card is offering a limited time highest ever 150,000 point signup bonus for spending $6,000 in 3 months. You can read more about the card here, including a plethora of credits which more than cover the annual fee.

The Sapphire Reserve for Business℠ Card is offering a limited time 200,000 point signup bonus for spending $30,000 in 6 months. You can read more about the card here.

If you have a Sapphire Reserve card you will retain the 1:1 transfer ratio even after 9/30, though the Sapphire Reserve cards have a $795 annual fee instead of the $95 annual fee on the Sapphire Preferred card.

You can transfer points from everyone’s card in your household to Sapphire Reserve to transfer at parity. Once in Hyatt, you can transfer to anyone else’s Hyatt account at parity as well.

What will your strategy be to transfer points to Hyatt with these changes? Will you take advantage of these card offers before they’re gone?
