Chase Sapphire Reserve’s Price Match Guarantee Is A Game-Changer; Don’t Forget To Use It With Stackable Credits!

One of the complaints about the refresh of the Chase Sapphire Reserve® Card was that while it came with The Edit hotel credits with lots of perks, the hotel rates were higher than those available elsewhere. It also originally split the $250 credit into the first half and 2nd half of the year, which made it harder to use.

Just a few months after the refresh, Chase made a couple major changes:

  • The $250 off 2 night Edit hotel credit could be used twice per year, with no need to book in the first and second halves of the year.
  • They added a $250 2+ night Chase Travel hotel bookings for IHG Hotels & Resorts, Montage Hotels & Resorts, Pendry Hotels & Resorts, Omni Hotels & Resorts, Virgin Hotels, Minor Hotels, and Pan Pacific Hotels and Resorts for use in 2026.

Of course, the card also has a $300 annual travel credit.

Impressively, all of those stack together. That means if you book a 2 night stay at an eligible Edit hotel, you can get back $800 via all 3 of those credits.

More recently, Chase added a price match guarantee for all hotels booked on the Sapphire Reserve and the Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business℠. If you make a booking and find a lower rate on another site, you can submit a price match guarantee within 24 hours of booking. You just have to take a screenshot of the competing site showing the URL along with the same hotel, dates, room type, along with a similar cancellation policy, and the same number of guests.

Chase is offering a value of up to 2.5 cents per point on select Edit Hotels, so I decided to test that all out on the InterContinental Dominica Cabrits Resort & Spa in Portsmouth, Dominica.

When you book via Chase Edit, that hotel comes with free daily breakfast, a $100 property credit, 4pm guaranteed late checkout, a welcome amenity, free WiFi, and early checkin and an upgrade if available.

I found a member rate directly from IHG that was $80 cheaper per night than via the Edit.

I was able to book partially with cash and partially with points and get back the $250 Edit credit, the $250 hotel credit, the $300 travel credit, and had no problem submitting for a Price Match guarantee and getting that approved.

However, it’s worth noting that the price match guarantee will result in a partial clawback of the stacking hotel credits, so you’ll need to do the math to determine how much to charge in cash and how many points to use for the stay. As long as you book a refundable rate, you can always cancel and rebook if you mess up on the math.

The SLS Playa Mujeres in Cancun is an all-inclusive hotel and offers an all-inclusive kosher program for $100 per person per day. It offers a value of 2 cents per point via The Edit. When you book via Chase Edit, that hotel comes with a $200 property credit, a welcome amenity, free WiFi, and early checkin, late checkout, and an upgrade if available.

Here too, I was able to file for a price match guarantee to the member rate directly from Accor and got approved for a $70 refund. If you have a $250 Edit credit, just make sure to charge your card for $320 cash so that the price match doesn’t cause a clawback. You can then pay for the rest of the room with points.

Have you taken advantage of Sapphire Reserve’s stacking credits and price match guarantee?
