Limited Time Offer: Earn A $250 Travel Credit Plus $1,000 Bonus Cash Back Or 100,000 Bonus Miles On The Capital One Spark Cash Card, Plus $0 Intro Annual Fee!

Limited Time Signup Bonus:

Capital One has just launched a limited time offer for its Capital One Spark Cash Card. The expiration date of this offer is unknown.

Signup for the Capital One Spark Cash Card and you will earn a $250 Capital One Business Travel credit, plus $1,000 bonus cash back after spending $10,000 in the first 3 months. As you earn at least 2% back everywhere, that’s a total of $1,200 cash back plus a $250 travel credit after spending $10,000.

You can get approved and earn this bonus even if you have the Capital One Spark Cash Plus, which is a different card product, is a charge card, and has a higher annual fee. The Spark Cash Plus doesn’t report to personal credit bureaus, while the Spark Cash card does as it’s a credit card. Read more about the Plus card’s limited time offer here.

If you have a Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card, Capital One Venture X Business Card, Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card, Capital One VentureOne Rewards Credit Card, or Capital One Venture Business Card, you can transfer cash back into miles at $1 cash back to 100 miles ratio. That means you can convert the $1,200 cash back into 120,000 miles, where they can be much more valuable!

You can even transfer rewards to any other cardholder!

The $250 travel credit will be applied to your account within two billing cycles and will expire 15 months after account opening. The credit will be available within Capital One Business Travel and can be applied to purchases at checkout for all travel, including flights, hotels, car rentals, vacation rentals, etc. The credit may be used in whole for a single purchase or in part over multiple purchases. If the purchase using the credit is canceled, the credit will be restored if it is not expired.

It’s worth noting that Capital One has an excellent price match guarantee for flights, hotels, or car rentals within 24 hours of booking. You will get a credit for the price difference, and best of all, the credit doesn’t expire!

Annual fee:

With this offer, the annual fee will be $0 for the first year and $95 afterwards. Additional user cards are free.

Card earnings:

  • 2% cash back everywhere.
  • 5% cash back on hotels and rental cars booked via Capital One Travel.
  • No foreign transaction fees.

Excellent MLB Redemptions

Capital One cardholders have access to exclusive tickets to special events such as All-Star Week, the MLB Postseason, and the World Series presented by Capital One.

Plus, you can redeem just $40 cash back for ultra-premium MLB seats in every ballpark, for every game. There are 4 tickets available for every game at that rate. The best time to buy is when each month’s games go live, which are posted here.

I have gone to games with amazing seats in NYC, DC, LA, Anaheim, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Pittsburgh, San Diego, and San Francisco, and hope to go to more to complete my 30 ballpark tour using my Capital One points at an excellent value!

Getting $200 seats for $40 is an awesome deal!

Card benefits:

  • Cell phone protection, up to $800 per claim with a $50 deductible when previous cell phone bill was paid on card.
  • Virtual card numbers for making online payments without your card number.
  • Price protection for when items go down in price, up to $500/item and $2,500 per year within 60 days of purchase!
  • Purchase protection for items damaged or stolen within 90 days, up to $10,000 per item.
  • Rental car CDW insurance, primary coverage for rentals for business purposes.
  • Extended warranty of 1 extra year, up to $10,000 per item.
  • Lost Luggage Insurance, up to $3,000 per trip.
  • Travel Accident Insurance, up to $250,000 per person.

Spend Threshold:

You can pay your federal taxes for a 1.85% fee. If you overpay your taxes you can request a refund or apply it to your next year’s taxes. If you paid $9,819 in taxes you would pay $181 in fees and earn $1,200 cash back and a $250 travel credit!

My local natural gas company allows me to prepay up to $1,000 on a credit card for a $1.65 flat fee. That’s a great way to earn miles and help meet a spend threshold. My electricity supplier allows me to pay with a credit card for free as long as I am enrolled in autopay.

Business vs consumer card and applying for a business card

This business card won’t appear on your credit report. That’s good for several reasons.

First of all, it won’t count against your 5/24 count for opening new Chase cards. Only cards on your report that have been opened within the past 24 months count for that.

Second, when you spend money on personal cards your credit score will be hurt even if you pay your bill on time. A whopping 30% of your credit score is based on credit utilization. You can pay off your card bill before your statement is generated to avoid that, but that takes effort and laying out money well before you have to. Additionally it’s good to have the statement close with a couple dollars to show the card is active and being paid every month. On a business card it’s just not reported, so you can wait until the money is due without it having a negative effect on your score. Maxing out your credit line on a business card won’t hurt your credit utilization ratio or credit score.

Third, if you close a business card it won’t ever have an effect on your score.

You may already have a business that needs a card to keep track of expenses. For example if your name is Joe Smith and you sell items online, or if you have any other side business and want a credit card to better keep track of business expenditures you can open a business credit card for “Joe Smith” as the business. You don’t need to file any messy government paperwork to be allowed to do that. Just be sure to select “Sole Proprietorship” as the business type and just use your social security number in the Tax Identification Number field.

Transfer miles to other cardholders

A great perk of Capital One miles is that you can combine miles between Capital One mileage cards, transfer cash back into miles, and you can even transfer miles to any Capital One cardholder!

Dan’s Quick Thoughts:

This is an excellent and versatile card, with strong cashback earnings, a strong signup bonus, and the potential to transfer the cash back into airline miles or hotel points.

The consumer Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card or Capital One Venture X Business Card or Capital One Venture Business Card can be effectively free after the travel credits and have more perks, but if you just want cash back with the option of later converting to miles, this is a great card to have!

MLB redemptions are also cheaper with cash back cards, and the first year’s annual fee is waived with this offer!
