Limited Time Offer: Earn A $500 Travel Credit Plus $2,000 Bonus Cash Back Or 200,000 Miles On The Capital One Spark Cash Plus!

Limited Time Signup Bonus:

Capital One has just launched a limited time offer for its Capital One Spark Cash Plus. The expiration date of this offer is unknown.

  • You will earn a $500 Capital One Business Travel credit, plus $2,000 bonus cash back after spending $30,000 in the first 3 months.
    • As you earn at least 2% back everywhere, that’s a total of $2,600 cash back plus a $500 travel credit after spending $30,000.
  • You will earn another $2,000 bonus cash back for every $500K of spending in the first 12 months.
    • As you earn at least 2 points per dollar spent, that’s an additional $12,000 cash back for every $500,000 spent. After your first $500,000 spent you would have a total of $14,000 cash back plus a $500 travel credit with the card’s signup bonus.

That’s a big spending requirement, but could be worthwhile if you’re looking for a business charge card.

You can earn this bonus even if you have had this card previously. You can get approved for this even if you recently were approved for the consumer Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card, but you can’t get approved if you have the Capital One Venture X Business Card.

If you have a Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card, Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card, Capital One VentureOne Rewards Credit Card, or Capital One Venture Business Card, you can transfer cash back into miles at $1 cash back to 100 miles ratio. That means you can convert the $2,600 cash back into 260,000 miles, where they can be much more valuable!

You can even transfer rewards to any other cardholder!

The $500 travel credit will be applied to your account within two billing cycles and will expire 15 months after account opening. The credit will be available within Capital One Business Travel and can be applied to purchases at checkout for all travel, including flights, hotels, car rentals, vacation rentals, etc. The credit may be used in whole for a single purchase or in part over multiple purchases. If the purchase using the credit is canceled, the credit will be restored if it is not expired.

It’s worth noting that Capital One has an excellent price match guarantee for flights, hotels, or car rentals within 24 hours of booking. You will get a credit for the price difference, and best of all, the credit doesn’t expire!

Annual fee:

$150. Additional user cards are free.

Annual fee will be refunded if you spend $150,000 in a cardmembership year.

Credit reporting:

Unlike most other Capital One cards, this card does not report spending on your personal credit report, so a high utilization rate of your credit line will not hurt your credit score.

It also means that it won’t hurt your Chase 5/24 count.

Charge Card with no preset spend limit:

This is a charge card has no preset spend limit. It is a pay in full card with no APR as your balance is due in full monthly.

It can be easier to make big purchases with this card than with traditional credit cards that have a hard credit limit.

Card earnings:

  • 2% cash back everywhere.
  • Earn unlimited 5% cash back on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Business Travel.
  • No foreign transaction fees.

Excellent MLB Redemptions

Capital One cardholders have access to exclusive tickets to special events such as All-Star Week, the MLB Postseason, and the World Series presented by Capital One.

Plus, you can redeem just 5,000 miles for ultra-premium MLB seats in every ballpark, for every game. There are 4 tickets available for every game at that rate. The best time to buy is when each month’s games go live, which are posted here.

I have gone to games with amazing seats in NYC, DC, LA, Anaheim, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Pittsburgh, San Diego, and San Francisco, and hope to go to many more to complete my 30 ballpark tour using my Capital One points at an excellent value!

Getting $200 seats for $40 is a great deal!

Card benefits:

  • Virtual card numbers for making online payments without your card number.
  • Price protection for when items go down in price, up to $500/item and $2,500 per year within 60 days of purchase!
  • Purchase protection for items damaged or stolen within 90 days, up to $10,000 per item.
  • Rental car CDW insurance, primary coverage for rentals for business purposes.
  • Extended warranty of 1 extra year, up to $10,000 per item.
  • Lost Luggage Insurance, up to $3,000 per trip.
  • Travel Accident Insurance, up to $250,000 per person.

Spend Threshold:

You can pay your federal taxes for a 1.85% fee. If you overpay your taxes you can request a refund or apply it to your next year’s taxes. If you paid $29,456 in taxes you would pay $544 in fees and earn $2,600 cash back and a $500 travel credit!

My local natural gas company allows me to prepay up to $1,000 on a credit card for a $1.65 flat fee. That’s a great way to earn miles and help meet a spend threshold. My electricity supplier allows me to pay with a credit card for free as long as I am enrolled in autopay.

Business vs consumer card and applying for a business card

This business card won’t appear on your credit report. That’s good for several reasons.

First of all, it won’t count against your 5/24 count for opening new Chase cards. Only cards on your report that have been opened within the past 24 months count for that.

Second, when you spend money on personal cards your credit score will be hurt even if you pay your bill on time. A whopping 30% of your credit score is based on credit utilization. You can pay off your card bill before your statement is generated to avoid that, but that takes effort and laying out money well before you have to. Additionally it’s good to have the statement close with a couple dollars to show the card is active and being paid every month. On a business card it’s just not reported, so you can wait until the money is due without it having a negative effect on your score. Maxing out your credit line on a business card won’t hurt your credit utilization ratio or credit score.

Third, if you close a business card it won’t ever have an effect on your score.

You may already have a business that needs a card to keep track of expenses. For example if your name is Joe Smith and you sell items online, or if you have any other side business and want a credit card to better keep track of business expenditures you can open a business credit card for “Joe Smith” as the business. You don’t need to file any messy government paperwork to be allowed to do that. Just be sure to select “Sole Proprietorship” as the business type and just use your social security number in the Tax Identification Number field.

Transfer miles to other cardholders

A great perk of Capital One miles is that you can combine miles between Capital One mileage cards, transfer cash back into miles, and you can even transfer miles to any Capital One cardholder!

Airline and hotel transfer partners:

If you have a Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card, Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card, Capital One VentureOne Rewards Credit Card, or Capital One Venture Business Card, you can transfer cash back into miles at $1 cash back to 100 miles ratio. That means you can convert the $2,600 cash back into 260,000 miles, where they can be much more valuable!

You can also transfer cash back or miles to any Capital One cardholder!

You can transfer points from Capital One into these programs at the following ratios:

  • And endless other possibilities!

Dan’s Quick Thoughts:

This is a lucrative signup bonus, if you can meet the minimum spending requirements.

Personally, I prefer the consumer Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card or Capital One Venture X Business Card as those can be effectively free after the travel credits, but if you just want cash back with the option of later converting to miles, this is a great card to have and use!

MLB redemptions are also cheaper with cash back cards, and if you do spend $150K in a calendar year, your annual fee will be refunded!
